ASIA POLICY POINT

Asia Policy Point (APP) is looking for energetic, motivated young scholars committed to learning about the US policy relationship with Japan and Northeast Asia (China, Korea, Taiwan, Russian Far East). Candidates must want to pursue a career in foreign relations.

We are a small nonprofit research center studying Japanese and Northeast Asian science, security, foreign, and public policy. APP publishes a weekly electronic newsletter and occasional research reports, as well as holds briefings and conferences on critical US-Asia issues for the US policy community. APP’s members are leading Asia scholars, policy officials, analysts, and journalists. The internship is an excellent introduction to Washington’s Asia policy and research environment. The primary responsibilities concern research, writing, and publication of APP’s electronic newsletter, the Asia Policy Calendar.

Internship activities will include

     performing general administrative and office duties

     monitoring issues affecting US policy toward Japan and Northeast Asia

     assisting with programs for US trade, defense, and technology officials

     researching sources of US-Asia trade, security, political, history, and technology issues; 
     translation skills a plus, but not necessary

We seek an individual who can

    learn quickly office procedures of a small non-profit organization and who has excellent computer and Internet skills, is flexible and observant

     research issues concerning Japan and East Asia, and has interest in American foreign policy, international economics, conflict resolution, and security policy

     work gracefully and professionally in a political environment and possess good political judgment, a sense of humor, patience, and people skills

     work independently and take initiative in identifying projects and areas of need

Basic Requirements: GPA 3.5 or higher, some exposure, preferably advanced, to the languages of Asia, interest in Washington politics, excellent English-language skills. This position is unpaid.
